Putrajaya Botanical Park and Wetland Park

Putrajaya is proundly being labelled as the garden city for many of the parks, lakes and wetlands in the city. These fascinating locations have attracted a lot of visitors mainly from the local and also the increasing foreigners. I drove to Putrajaya today for the purpose to visit these parks and the wetlands. I have managed to visit only Putrajaya Botanical Garden and Putrajaya Wetlands Park for about half of the day. The admission to both of these parks are free.

(A) Putrajaya Botanical Garden (Taman Botani Putrajaya)
This garden is located in the Putrajaya Precinct 1 section, along Persiaran Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah. This was the first park on my way to Putrajaya. It is the largest botanical garden in the country with the total area of 92 hectares. The park houses abundance of tropical plants for about 700 species from 90 countries of the Africa, America and Asia Pacific region.

The first thing that immediately captured my attention is the Moroccan Pavillion (see Photo 1) which is located very near to the main entrance. This buiding showcases the unique Moroccan and Moorish architecture and houses a lot of designs and artworks from the four famous royal cities of Fez, Meknes, Marrakech and Rabat. As nobody seem to be manning the ticket counter during the lunch time (where have they gone?) , I only captured the photo from the external.

The Putrajaya Seafood Restaurant (see Photo 2) is also seen within the same compound. It looks good to be the dinner venue with my colleagues in the future.

To have a better sense of direction within the park, I have come to the Visitor Centre (See Photo 3) to request for information. I have managed to obtain a copy of the very limited "photocopied" brochure in English.

This are basically 4 main zones in this park - Explorer's Trail (See Photo 4), Palm Hill, Florar Gardens and Lakeside.

There are lot's of different species of Palm Trees planted in the Palm Hill.

There is an obelisk with the attached sundials (see Photo 6) in the Sun Garden. It symbolizes the significance of time and its relationship to the plants. It is amazing to find out that the flowers in the garden react differently accordingly to the time of the day.

It started to rain a little bit when I was walking along the Lake Boardwalk (see Photo 8). With a cap and the umbrella (it is always handy to have these two) , I continued my journey by the lovely scenic (See Photo 9) lake and enjoyed the surrounding that soothes the eye.

There seems to be a lack of map display in the strategic locations wihin the park to show the current location in relative to the entire park. There were couple of times I missed the way and had to make U-turn.

(B) Putrajaya Wetlands Park (Taman Wetland Putrajaya)
Putrajaya Wetlands Park is located adjacent to Purajaya Botanical Garden and I reached there in less than 10 minutes. This is the first man-made wetlands in Malaysia , and the biggest in the tropical region.
Due to the limited time, I visited only 2 places here. The LookOut Tower (Photo 10) is 80 meter tall and provides the bird's eye view of the Putrajaya. Frankly speaking, it is nothing really impressive here.

I took quite some photos in Flamingo Pond (see Photo 11). I think there is a lot of potential to attract visitors here. However, the pond is a little bit small. I could see only about 20-30 Flamingo birds in the pond.

I spent about a total of 4 hours in these 2 parks. I would say a visit to Putrajaya is definitely not complete without visits to various remarkable parks, lakes and wetlands in Putrajaya.
